Working with my Milwaukee 18v M18 Drill Combo Kit

Working with my Milwaukee 18v M18 Drill Combo Kit

Dec 29, 2011

I have always been a fan of Milwaukee’s Drills. I have owned probably a dozen over the past 10 years. They are very durable and get the job done. I have 2 corded units and 3 cordless drills from their M18 line.

Milwaukee was one of the first companies to offer compact drills a few years ago and I jumped in and bought this set of the M18 18v drill and impact drill. They have performed well. I installed my deck this summer using this drill set and a lot of stainless steel screws with no problems.

The Milwaukee M18 Lithium-Ion Compact Drill Driver

The Milwaukee 18 volt Compact set has a great feature set that makes them well worth the Milwaukee M18 compact drillmoney. The first thing I noticed when I bought the set was the flashlight that is above the trigger. I can’t tell you how many times I have used this to work and as a light in a pinch. The main drill has 2 speed settings, easily changeable on top so you can control your work easier. It has an adjustable dial around the chuck with 24 settings  that controls the clutch giving you ultimate control on how much torque you use to drill or screw. The reverse button is in the perfect spot, and the unit’s grip is ideal for long days of working on the job. It has a variable speed trigger which starts with just the light then slowly ramps up the speed.  But the most impressive feature is the the units 400 inch pounds of torque. It will shred through studs and other wood without pause. Add a keyless 1/2″ chuck that can run larger bits and this cordless, compact drill is a dream. If you are considering upgrading from your older, much larger drill, then this is the only set to really consider. It has won numerous awards and is rated at 4.5 stars on Amazon.

The Milwaukee M18 1/4-Inch Hex Compact Impact Driver

The drill’s smaller cousin is a true workhorse. If you haven’t used impact before then you are missing out. Impact drills repeatedly vibrate towards your work to move your drill bit or screw into your work faster. I have driven 3 1/2″ bolts straight through pressure treated wood post with this drill. Long screws are a no brainer, no more worrying about stripping the screw as the screw’s resistance moves up.  It has a solid 1400 inches/lbs of torque and uses a standard 1/4″ hex interface instead of a chuck.  This allows for easy set up of quick change drill bits and sockets. I have used this to remove bolts on my car with no problem. The Milwaukee M18 impact drill has impressive size to boot, being only 5 3/4″ long and weighing a mere 3/5 pounds.

Milwaukee M18 Lithium-Ion Battery

The third piece to this kit is the M18 batteries. These work horses are lithium and last forever. They are very light compared to old NiCd batteries and much smaller. They also charge quickly, usually under 30 minutes. The batteries also have a charge indicator so you know how much juice is left in them.

What is the warranty?

  • 5 year warranty ( that is huge, most are 1)

This set has a very high satisfaction rating. My own experience with the set has been great. I had another small M12 that I bought from home depot about 2 years ago that stopped working.  I paid $100 for the drill originally and decided to see about repairing it. I didn’t want to drive across town to get it serviced so I went to Milwaukee’s web site and discovered I could mail it in to them for free. Within 7 business days the drill was back on my porch with a new clutch at no cost to me and works great now. I will be doing this from now on when something stops working. That is a great 5 year warranty.

Amazon offers this M18 drill kit at a great price below $200 and as always you can get free shipping, no tax and enjoy their easy return policy. What’s not to like?
