Picking out Kitchen Cabinets

When you contemplate how your kitchen looks one of the primary concerns is the look and feel of the kitchen cabinets. They create the ambiance and establish a style that everything else follows. Picking the wrong cabinets can be a disaster for a kitchens final look. There are 3 ways to pick cabinets based on your budget:

1. For owners on a budget you can look at refacing the cabinets with new doors and even use a veneer to change to wood look in your kitchen without breaking the bank.  The draw back to this type of upgrade is that you are stuck with the cabinet bases which may or may not be configured the way you want.
2. Prefabbed Cabinets: These cabinets are made in several configurations and styles but you are limited to what is available. If you need a 29″ cabinet then you are out of luck.
3. Custom made Cabinets: The third and most expensive option for a kitchen make over is using custom cabinets.  The advantages are many. Any size shape and color can be created. Wood choices is based on taste and the look of the doors and trim out is up to the imagination.

Once you have decided on a budget for the cabinets you have to decide on a look.  Cabinet doors are the most important aspect of this decision. There are many types of panels from  raised panel to flat panel to name a few.

Wood species is another important decision. Oak is a heavily grained wood which take stains well. At the other end of the spectrum is Maple which has a very mild grain appearance and only takes lighter colored stains.

These decisions once made can create a beautiful space worth the time and effort put in.
