Changing the belt on a Belt Sander

Changing the belt on a Belt Sander

Feb 23, 2012

I have a porter cable belt sander model #352vz that I have had for a few years. This sander does a fantastic job of quickly tearing through wood and paint. I highly recommend a belt sander if you need to level something out or remove several layers of old paint. They are one of the fastest ways of getting though materials.

Belt sanders are driven by a small rubber toothed belt that, over a few years of reasonable use, wears out. If your belt sander runs, but the drum is not spinning, then the belt has broken and needs to be replaced. The belt cost me $20 on line and took all of 10 minutes to replace. Simply take off the plastic side cover plate and the drive belt is there. Slide it on and you are good to go.

This is a very powerful sander and is great for quick tear down of wood.
