How to Install a Garbage Disposal

Installing a garbage disposal makes kitchen food prep a lot easier as well as clean up. But old disposals become rusty and eventually ineffective and tend to generate odors. It should not take more than an hour to do and I recommend replacing all the plumbing waste pipes, usually the pea trap is quite disgusting and filled with debris.  You can order a garbage disposal from Amazon. I recommend the Waste King 3/4 hp, it has a longer warranty than other units, is made from steel,  and has great reviews on Amazon. Everything you need for the disposal is included.  Anything less than 3/4 horsepower and you will regret it when it gets stuck on something small.

Remember you may also need:

• plumbers putty for the collar
• new pipes for installation
• possibly a new pig tail wire to plug the new unit in with
• you may need a rubber coupling to connect to an odd old wall pipe if your home is older
